Number of IT vacancies up but candidate applications down in February report CV Screen

We’re just having a look at the figures for the start of 2012 and the good news for us is that the number of vacancies is up from 2011 by about 4% and our number of placements has certainly also risen during the first 2 months.
The slightly surprising thing in February was that the number of applications per vacancy dropped from 226 in January to 110. Now obviously that’s still a lot of candidates but certainly we were a tad surprised to see such a drop.
Obviously the number of candidates applying in January is always going to be higher with the typical “New Year / New Career” candidates on the market but it appears that a lot of them have been snapped up in January or have simply decided that they’re better off staying put!
As an IT Recruitment specialist we’re still noticing a big demand for candidates with strong Web Development / eCommerce skills and certainly the IT industry continues to be relatively buoyant at this time. Our experience shows that Q1 is frequently one of the top two quarters in terms of vacancies registered and indeed candidate availability and we’re confident that the recruitment industry is going to survive the current onslaught about Social Recruiting!
